Fashion Tips: How to Choose the Right Necklace

Every woman has had that one day where absolutely everything from head to toe is perfect.  Hair,  makeup,  shoes,  outfit. Until they get to the accessories.  Every item of jewelry is laid out, tried on and taken off.  If only our moms had taught us the rules governing necklaces and necklines, then we wouldn’t be stuck in front of the mirror for hours trying to decide which necklace best complements that killer outfit.  But do not despair!  We have put together a brief guide which should make things a lot easier for you.

How to Choose the Right Necklace for Different Looks

Crew Neck Tops: Go for an elaborate bib or collar necklace because most of the time crew neck tops are relatively plain.

Turtleneck Tops:  The right necklace that you can go for when wearing a turtleneck top is a long pendant or long beaded necklace. These kind of jewelry can simply add a statement to your look and will work great with the whole outfit.

Sweetheart necklines: Choosing the right necklace for sweetheart necklines is almost the same as turtlenecks.  You can either wear a pendant necklace or beaded necklace for looking your best.  Don’t forget that pearls do work as well!

Scoop Neck Tops:  Best when worn with chunky shorter necklaces.  So if you have a statement necklace that you’ve been too nervous to wear – now is the time!

Strapless Tops:  Choker necklaces work perfect with strapless tops.  You can either go for a ribbon and a pendant or something heavier like a chain-link choker.

Square Tops:  Keep that ‘straight line’ and pair your favorite square top with angular or stacked necklaces.

Halter Tops:  A simple, understated necklace like a slim chain works best.

Collared Shirts:  Simple pendant necklaces, chains, or choker necklaces would look best with a collared shirt.  Though this depends on your taste and your look as well.

V-necks:  Keep the V by wearing V shaped necklaces, stacked necklaces, or just a chain and pendant for a casual chic look.

Boat Neck/Ballerina Tops: Long beaded necklaces or long layered necklaces suit this neckline best. So, you can easily add a statement to your whole look by layering necklaces in different lengths.

Go Safe and Bold!

Although the guidelines are safe, there are times when making a statement and breaking the rules gives you that killer look!! Don’t be afraid to follow the rules and “color inside the necklace lines”, but also don’t be afraid to go bold, “color outside the necklace lines”, and create a look all your own.

So, “Go Safe or Go Bold” or “Go Safe and Bold” – Get that look that Mom would love and gives you that special touch!
